Confirmation Requirements for Students and Parents
Christ's disciples gave up everything to follow Him. God wants us to do the same. We realize you will have to make some sacrifices to be a part of Confirmation, but you will be rewarded with a life-changing experience you'll never forget.
Student Requirements
1. Attendance. Students may not miss more than 3 class weeks of Confirmation. Week 1, the Retreat, and the Ceremony are required - students may not miss any of these three things. If a class day is missed, student is still responsible for completing the homework and checking it with mentor; however, no make up time is required for the class missed. If Retreat is missed at all, student is not confirmed. If 3 or more weeks are missed, student and parents will be called, and student will not be confirmed in the semester. S/he may sign up for the following semester. Because Confirmation is a very compact class in 13 weeks, missing classes means missing important elements of understanding the Christian faith. Please check your entire calendar before signing up for Confirmation.
2. Service Activity. Each Confirmand is required to complete one service project of at least 3 hours, outside of regular Confirmation time.
3. Attend Worship Services and Zion activities. Students are required to attend both a church worship services at LSUMC and a Zion Ministry program other than Confirmation each week (e.g. home-based, campus-based, or Sunday School group, Wednesday night program/group)
4. Homework and scripture memory. Students will be accountable to mentors, and at any time, a mentor or staff member may determine whether a student is or is not prepared to be confirmed.
Parent Requirements
1. Attend regular weekend services at LSUMC with your student
2. Pray for your student each day throughout the semester. At the Parent Meeting, you'll get prayer suggestions that match your students topic of the week!
3. Timeliness. Bring your student to Confirmation classes each week on time
4. Enthusiasm. Bring your student to Livewire or Sunday School with enthusiasm to help them integrate into Zion Student Ministries
5. Help on the Homefront. Help student to remember homework, journaling, scripture memory, and reading through the week
6. Volunteer. This is your child's class, so we expect you to help run the show! Sign up for the volunteer jobs at the Parent Meeting. Offer to help your student?s Confirmation Mentors with planning social (1) and service (2) events for the group (ex. Food, location, transportation, invitations, etc.)
